With stints working at both Issey Miyake and Oswald Boateng in London under her belt, Therese Rawsthorne returned to Australia in 2003 with aspirations of setting up her own fashion label. Two years later, Rawsthorne’s debut label Youth World was born. After three successful seasons designing under her Youth World label, and a naming conflict in The States led Therese Rawsthorne to re-brand her cult Sydney-based fashion brand under her own name.
But whatever the label might be named, in our opinion Rawsthorne is one of the brightest talents to come out of Australia. Her designs show elements of rock, glam and goth, but put together in an eminently wearable and approachable fashion. Renowned for their clean lines and quirky detail, the understated sophistication of the collections has garnered many fans for their versatility and nonchalant ease.
With a penchant for the natural fibres cotton, silk & wool, the focus is firmly on the fabric. Unique washed processes and both traditional and technological finishes are utilised in each collection including laser cutting, pintucking, yardage
printing and hand-embroidered garments.
Therese Rawsthorne's winter collection entitled ‘Intimacy’ is a breath of fresh air. Gorgeous muted palette is showcased
by Therese's signature amazing fabrications and tailoring with bursts of sheer amongst loose knits and soft washed silks.
