The logic behind the label Bassike was simple enough – to create organic basics within Australia. Bassike was formed in
2006 by two former Ksubi employees, Deborah Sams and Mary Lou Ryan.
The label was formed out of frustration from not being able to find quality luxurious basics without forking out an arm and a leg for overseas designers.
Bassike offers men's and women's luxury basic's in cleverly designed silhouettes. The product represents simplicity while still maintaining a strong identity and evolving from season to season.
The decision to use organic fibres, is part of the push towards ecologically sustainable clothing production. Bassike offers the highest quality organic cotton jersey in the market, making the product beautiful to wear.
In 2006, the products available from Bassike were solely cotton basics. Fast forward to today and Bassike is also offering denim and wool options in a wider variety of cuts and colours - all of which are organic in material.
It seems Bassike is down unders answer to American Apparel, the ‘downtown LA’ ethically made label/icon, culture that has taken over the world. In its short history, the label is now stocked in over 30 boutique stores throughout Australia and New Zealand.
