Bassike

Designers - Bassike

The name is intended to say it all: bassike, a label of lust-worthy proportions born out of the simple desire to provide wardrobe staples that could be worn with ease (and a certain degree of non-chalance). The brainchild of close friends Deborah Sams and Mary Lou Ryan, it stepped onto the Antipodean design scene in July 2006.

From that point on, it has flourished; and what began as a breezy collection of organic cotton-jersey T-shirts, dresses and trousers has since rounded out into more softly tailored territory. The intention however, lives on: current, eternal and effortless, each piece is designed to work seperately but also in conjunction and although new styles have been added - namely wool, jersey, cotton shirting, denim and leather - beauty still belongs to the wearer. With bassike, personal style resonates.

Winter 2011 collection

For Autumn Winter 2011 bassike have been inspired by nature, more precisely the veritable forest of flora and fauna that designers Deborah Sams and Mary Lou Ryan see when looking out from the door way of their remote Palm Beach studio across steep hillsides of rolling greenery, down to the sand, rocks and then ocean below. This going back to nature manifests itself both through the collections tonal color palette and also a new understated utilitarian take on many of bassike’s signature silhouettes and classic designs, as well as a whole raft of exciting new offerings.

Quality fabrics and resources are integral to bassike and part of the brands design DNA. This season sees the introduction of several new fabrics including a terry toweling used to create luxurious sports lux marl grey jersey pants, knitwear spun from organic Merino wool and a new cotton drill that comes dyed in the colors of the season including khaki green, rusty maroon, royal blue and sand which have been used throughout the collection.

bassike soft tailoring is shown in a tight selection of suits, dinner jacket, blazers and coats whose strong lines work perfectly with the relaxed and oversized shapes throughout the collection. The two key coats are a key wrap jacket in a traditional hounds tooth and the bassike trench coat, now a bassike staple if offered this season in a timeless understated moss green.
